Product description
Another silver coin from the series inspired by the Lord of the Rings film trilogy recalls the darkness of Mordor.
When the Dark Lord Sauron sought a place where he could make his world-dominating plans undisturbed, he chose an area in the northeast of Middle-earth because of its natural character, surrounded as it was by mountains that made it an impregnable fortress. Thus Mordor - literally translated as the Black Land – arose. The desolate and inhospitable territory was filled with horror, despair, pain and blood. In the background of the restless volcanoes, which belched clouds of smoke and ash, there was the fiery Mount Doom, in the heart of which Sauron had forged the Ruling Ring. From his tower, Barad-dûr sent armies of orcs and other hideous creatures to plunder the surrounding lands. It was not only the mountains that protected him from enemy attack, but also the inaccessible Black Gate. But there were other paths to the heart of Mordor - secret and fraught with danger. Whoever dared to explore them could decide the fate of all Middle-earth…
The reverse side of the coin is dominated by the pass of Cirith Gorgor, protected by the Black Gate and the Towers of Zub. The relief is patinated, which emphasizes even the smallest details. The obverse side is then dedicated to the necessary attributes of the issuer, which is the island of Niue - i.e. the national emblem, the nominal value of TWO DOLLARS (NZD) and the year of issue 2023. The coin was minted with official film licence by the New Zealand Mint team.
An elegant etui is an integral part of the issue.
