Product description

The "Czech Lion" bullion coins have gained a following both at home and abroad over the course of their ten-year history. In addition to their investment potential, they have also attracted attention with their striking patriotic design, which is updated annually. Between 2025 and 2026, their designer also changed, and this milestone is commemorated by a set of two 1-ounce silver coins from the Czech Mint.

Since 2017, the designer of the Czech Lions had been Asamat Baltaev, DiS., but in 2025, he took on this task for the last time. The tenth anniversary edition of the investment coin was therefore taken on in 2026 by another master of the medal-making craft. He is Vojtěch Dostál, DiS., who is not only an artist but also a teacher at the Jablonec School of Medal Making, where Asamat Baltaev studied. “Sometimes it’s just time for a change, and I completely understand that Asamat needs a break. He’s devoted himself to this for years with full commitment and is feeling the strain. Through the lion, I’m returning to a theme I love dearly. I created a medal with a lion’s head as my high school graduation project. And when you start studying at our vocational school, the first assignment you receive is your own interpretation of the Czech national emblem. I think the lion is a wonderful theme for a medalist for many years to come,” Vojtěch Dostál confided.

While AsamatBaltaev has focused on the lion’s face in his relief work in recent years, Vojtěch Dostál has taken a different path - he depicted the entire figure of a striding lion so that its characteristic pride, the double tail, is visible. However, a clear connecting element has been preserved - the majestic king of beasts wears the St. Wenceslas Crown on his head. Since the coins of the Czech Mint are issued under license from a foreign issuer, the island of Niue, their obverse sides bear its necessary attributes - a portrait of King Charles III, the nomiinal value of 2 DOLLARS (NZD), and the year of issue 2025/2026.

The set of two coins, stored in an elegant wooden case, has a mintage of 200 pieces.
