The Queen's Reign Charity and Patronage 2022 UK brilliant

In 2022, already 70 years have passed since Queen Elizabeth II came to the British throne. The island kingdom is celebrating the platinum jubilee of her reign, therefore, the Royal Mint has marked the occasion with a series of themed issues including this commemorative coin featuring the Queen's charity.

Thanks to the Queen Elizabeth II's contribution, up to two billion dollars a year will be raised for charitable causes. As evidenced by a tradition that goes back to the 13th century, the charity of British monarchs has a long history. Each year on Maundy Thursday, the Queen chooses some men and women - seniors who care about the well-being of their communities - and presents them with two purses. While the red purse contains common currency, symbolizing the ancient alms of Easter, the white purse contains special silver coins. These pennies, twopence, threepence and fourpence - the so-called "maundy money" - are legal tender, but few would give them up. Their collectible value is extraordinary, although the number of donations increases each year as the number of donations reflects Her Majesty's age...

The Irish artist P. J. Lynch used these Easter coins as a metaphor to express the devotion of Elizabeth II. to the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth. The reverse side is supplemented with the Queen's signature which appears on the coins for the first time. The obverse side is then dedicated to the attributes of the issuer - i.e. the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, the text ELIZABETH II D G REG F D (Elizabeth II, by the Grace of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith), the year 2022 and the nominal value of 5 POUNDS (GBP).

The commemorative coin minted from base metals is stored in a special packaging that shows the royal charity in words and images (in English).
