Product description

The Holy Baptism is an ancient tradition, that for centuries played a pivotal role in the lives of believers. Is the gateway to the world of Christianity, and to everyone that passes, belongs a precious gift. The Czech Mint has therefore prepared a special issue of the gold ducat.

Baptism is the first of the sacraments in the Christian life. Through Baptism they  become members of the religious community and they are forgiven all their sins - hereditary and personal. The history of Christian baptism itself dates back to John the Baptist, who baptized Jesus in the waters of the Jordan. The form of the act has evolved and a habit to endow the baptized was added. A gift from godfather or godmother was usually a subject of gold or silver - such as jewelry, coins and commemorative medals - this tradition is still honored today.

The obverse side of the ducat is dominated by the Baptism scene - mother holding a baby dressed in festive shirt, while the spiritual father grants the baptism. The reverse side is dedicated to the Virgin Mary holding baby Jesus in her arms and kisses him on the cheek. The author of the visual image of the ducat is the artist Nikolay Baltaev, a leading engraver and father of talented Asamat, whom you know from a number of relief realizations for the Czech Mint and the Czech National Bank.

Every ducat is stored in a gift packing.
