Product description

The long-awaited global project is finally here! The Czech Mint’s one-ounce silver commemorative coin pays tribute to the music icon Freddie Mercury.

“I don't view it as a job. I think I'm the luckiest person in the world because I'm doing something I love. There is nothing else I would rather do… I love the fact that I can make people happy, in any form. Even if it's just an hour of their lives, if I can make them feel lucky or make them feel good, or bring a smile to a sour face, that to me is worthwhile,” said singer and songwriter Freddie Mercury, who made his mark on music history and in the hearts of millions of people around the globe primarily as the frontman of the band Queen. The quartet – comprising Freddie Mercury (vocals, piano), Brian May (guitar, vocals), John Deacon (bass guitar, keyboards), and Roger Taylor (drums, vocals) – gave us tender ballads and stadium hard rock, rhythmic funk and ethereal gospel, plus opera madness that seemed to come from another world. Freddie captivated eager audiences with experimental yet catchy songs that were complex and grandiose, filled with rhythmic twists and turns, and musically and vocally brilliant. His four-octave range made him one of the greatest singers in history, but his flamboyant stage performances also played a major role in his success. A musical rebel, showman, visionary, and pioneer, he left this world prematurely – as a true legend. His music, which sends shivers down the spine and brings tears to the eyes, is, without exaggeration, immortal.

Medal maker Asamat Baltaev, DiS., dedicated the reverse side of the coin to a faithful portrait of Freddie Mercury with his characteristic moustache, complemented by three of his signature stage poses. The obverse side features the singer’s iconic accessories – a royal crown and a yellow jacket. Since the license to issue commemorative coins for the Czech Mint is provided by the Pacific island of Niue, the obverse also bears its necessary attributes – the coat of arms, the face value of 2 DOLLARS (NZD), and the year of issue 2026.

The mintage is limited to 2000 pieces. Each coin is packaged in a themed blister pack.
