Product description
The unique commemorative medal of the Czech Mint minted from one kilogram of pure silver pays tribute to Jablonec nad Nisou - its architecture and glassmaking.
At the end of the 19th century, the last universal style dominated art. Art Nouveau, which was strongly decorative and ornamental, affected architecture, sculpture, painting and glassmaking. The centre of the glass world at that time was the North Bohemian town of Jablonec nad Nisou, where 65% of the world's glass jewellery was produced. The 20th century also began spectacularly for the Jablonec region, when Jablonec entrepreneurs handed over to the Habsburg monarchy in taxes the same amount as the entire crown land of Dalmatia in 1911. Today, Jablonec nad Nisou is a mint town - home to the Czech Mint, which does not forget the region's glassmaking roots...
The obverse side of the medal, which is the work of medal maker Petra Brodská, DiS., is dominated by a stylised apple tree. The fruit tree, which can also be found on the town emblem of Jablonec nad Nisou, is studded with glass apples. The reverse side belongs to a geometric collage. It consists of various glass segments and details of Jablonec architecture. The iconic Art Nouveau buildings include the Municipal Theatre, the Museum of Glass and Jewellery and the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross.
The commemorative medal, set in a massive frame that allows it to be displayed, was created in an edition of only 10 pieces!
