Product description

Nightingales in gold - the title of the series by the Czech Mint, which is an extraordinary tribute to the best Czech interpreters of popular music. It was introduced by the master Karel Gott, and now by, joining the rank, equally famous Waldemar Matuška. He won the Golden Nightingale twice - in the very first edition in 1962 and again five years later in 1967. Several times he narrowly missed first place and won the silver medal. His exceptional vocal performance and acting skills deserve extraordinary silver medal in top-proof-quality that will diversify collections of numismatists and fans!

Waldemar Matuška`s career began in Reduta, in Prague, and fully took off in the Semafor theatre, from which went to the Rokoko Theatre in1962. There the first steps of his relationship with his fourth and last wife, Olga Blechová, took place. They were a couple not only in their private life, but also on stage - their joint performances with KTO Band held both in the Czech Republic and the USA. Matuška`s wedding took place in 1976 and the marriage lasted for 33 wonderful years. In May 2009, Waldemar Matuška succumbed to pneumonia in Florida. Olga after that fulfilled Waldemar`s last wish – with their son's help she finished and published a book "Waldemar and Olga - backstage of our lives", which in 2013 won the award for the best-selling biography of the year.

Also the new collector`s silver medal dedicated to the great voice and radiant personality of Waldemar Matuška is predestined to similar success. His excellent portrait, prepared by famous medallist MgA. Martin Dašek, dominates the obverse side of this exceptional mintage. For the reverse side the artist prepared a collage of musical notation of Matuška`s big hit To všechno odnes čas, the banjo and the singer's autograph. Silver medal will please all lovers of Waldemar Matuška and numismatists who like to enrich their collections with non-traditional modern mintage. Do not hesitate with the purchase and delight yourself or your loved ones!
