The tenth silver medal of the Czech Mint from the series entitled Cult of Personality commemorates the admired figure of John Fitzgerald Kennedy.

John Fitzgerald Kennedy was born into a prominent American family. He had seven younger siblings and one older brother, in whom his ambitious parents had the highest hopes. But then the Second World War broke out and the first-born Joseph, who was one day to become US President, was killed in action. John, who also took part in the fighting and who became an unadulterated war hero in the Pacific, fortunately survived and "inherited" the career that was intended for his brother. Although he wanted to be a writer or a teacher, he found himself in politics - becoming a congressman and then a senator for the Democratic Party. Although he did not win the nomination for the vice presidency, he was not discouraged and took up the fight for the highest office. He narrowly defeated Richard Nixon in the election in 1961 and became the 35th President of the United States - the youngest elected head of state in the country's history. His victory was supported not only by TV debates but also by his beautiful wife Jackie. The presidential couple's relationship was tumultuous, however, as Kennedy constantly cheated on the First Lady. Among his many mistresses were discreet interns and world-famous beauties such as Marilyn Monroe. Despite his private affairs, "JFK" was one of the presidents who most significantly influenced the face of the USA. During his tenure, the Bay of Pigs invasion occurred, the Berlin Wall was built, the Caribbean crisis was averted, the first clashes of the Vietnam War took place, and the race to conquer the moon began. Kennedy tried to slow the arms race and opposed nuclear proliferation. His economic measures launched the longest economic boom since World War II. He proposed plans to fight poverty and took strong action on equal rights. He made world history, but only became a true legend because of his untimely death. To this day, it is unclear who assassinated him in 1963 and why. Was it Fidel Castro, Nikita Khrushchev or perhaps Kennedy's vice-president Lyndon B. Johnson? Was the Mafia or the CIA involved in the political assassination? We'll probably never know...

The obverse side of the medal, which is the work of academic sculptor Jiří Dostál, presents a characteristic portrait of John Fitzgerald Kennedy, supplemented with his name and life dates. The reverse side is horizontally crossed by a strip of the inscription FREEDOM IS INHERENT... It is a strong beginning of Kennedy's quote. The composition is dominated vertically by the statue of Liberty. The US flag is freely used in the background," says the medal make.
