The Milky Way
The sixth silver coin in the Milky Way collector's series is dedicated to a remarkable star called Proxima Centauri.
Proxima Centauri is a star in the constellation Centaurus, located at a distance of 4.24 light years from Earth. It is the closest known star to the Sun for a terrestrial observer, and is therefore often suggested as the first destination for a hypothetical interstellar flight. Although it is a small and cool red dwarf, it has a promising orbit called Proxima Centauri b. On the surface of this planet, which is only slightly larger than Earth, there are temperatures in the range that allows water to exist in the liquid state…
The reverse side of the coin has been dedicated by the medal maker Asamat Baltaev, DiS., to a dynamic depiction of Proxima Centauri in vivid colours, achieved by means of colouring technology. No photographs or computer graphics were used as the template - the author created an original watercolour painting. Stylized space objects - stars and planets - can be seen in the embossed relief, and the composition is closed with the inscription PROXIMA CENTAURI. The obverse side of the coin humorously presents crop circles and a flying saucer that illuminates the national emblem of Niue. This, together with the year of issue 2023 and the nominal value of 1 DOLLAR (NZD), is a necessary attribute of the foreign issuer of the coin - a Pacific island that provides the Czech Mint with a licence to mint its own commemorative coins.
The coin dedicated to Proxima Centauri can be saved in a collector's album full of interesting facts about our home galaxy and the space conquerors.
