The Milky Way
The collector's series of the Czech Mint entitled Milky Way is a loose continuation of the popular Solar System series. The first silver coin, embellished with coloured colouring, repays a "debt" from the past and presents Pluto that is the last large body of the solar system.
Pluto, named after the Greco-Roman god of the underworld, was discovered in 1930 and became the ninth planet of the solar system. However, astronomical classification was changed and the distant body was demoted - classified as a so-called dwarf planet in 2006. It is thought to have a solid core and its rugged icy surface is made up of methane, nitrogen and water. The average temperature is minus 230 degrees Celsius. Although Pluto is smaller than our Moon, it has five known orbits, the largest of which is Charon.
The reverse side of the coin was dedicated by the medal maker Asamat Baltaev, DiS., to depiction of Pluto in vivid colors achieved using coloring technology. No photographs or computer graphics were used as a template - the author of the coin created an original watercolour painting. The embossed relief shows the Sun surrounded by the orbits of the eight planets of the solar system, and the composition is supplemented with the inscription PLUTO. The obverse of the coin humorously presents crop circles and a flying saucer, which illuminates a portrait of Elizabeth II. that is together with the Queen's name, the year of issue 2022 and the nominal value of 1 DOLLAR (NZD), a necessary attribute of the issuer of the coin - the Pacific island of Niue, which provides the Czech Mint with a foreign licence to mint its own commemorative coins.
The coin dedicated to Pluto can be saved in a collector's album full of interesting facts about our home galaxy and the conquerors of the cosmos.
