Silver coin On Wheels - Tractor Wikov 22 proof
Product description
The Wikov 22 tractor, which was a product of the largest Czechoslovak manufacturer of agricultural machinery, was suitable for work in agriculture and various industries. The twenty-sixth silver coin of the Czech Mint from the On Wheels series pays tribute to him.
At the end of the 19th century, two similar engineering companies were established in Prostějov - one bore the name Wichterle, the other Kovářík. For a long time they competed, but then they fortunately realised that there is strength in unity. They agreed to cooperate with each other, and on 22 December 1918 the Prostějov Machine Factory Wichterle & Kovářík, a joint stock company - Wikov for short - was founded. The production programme was extremely broad - it included ploughs, threshers, locomotives, steam, petrol and diesel engines, generators for powering smaller factories and small hand tools - and soon grew even more. In 1922, the owners of the company brought back an Italian car from a visit to the Vienna Exhibition, which became the design model for the new Czechoslovak cars. Tomáš Bat'a, Jiří Voskovec and Jan Werich were among the satisfied customers for whom Wikov produced customized cars. While around a thousand passenger cars were produced in Prostějov, four hundred commercial vehicles were produced. Tractors were a separate chapter in the company's history. Their production began in 1929 and the first example was called the Wikov 32. The next tractor models were called Wikov 35, Wikov 25 and Wikov 22. It had a two-cylinder four-stroke petrol engine with a capacity of 3 720 cm3, which provided 16,2 kW - 22 hp. Starting was by crank. The agricultural tractor was equipped with plough wheels or special wheels for ploughing beet. For work on the road or in industry, it was fitted with solid rubber hoops or tyres. Production of Wikov tractors was discontinued in 1939. During the Second World War, war production was imposed on the company and it was nationalised after the events of 1948. The Wikov brand disappeared for many decades. It was not until 2004 that it was resurrected by Martin Wichterle, a descendant of the famous dynasty. Today, its proud name is once again synonymous with engineering...
The reverse side of the coin, which is the work of the medal maker MgA. Martin Dašek, is dominated by a three-quarter view of the Wikov 22 tractor. The additional motif of the relief are the furrows formed by the plough wheels. As the coins of the Czech Mint are issued with the licence of a foreign issuer, which is the island of Niue, the obverse side bears its necessary elements - the national emblem, the nominal value of 1 DOLLAR (NZD) and the year of issue 2025 .
An integral part of the coin is a narrative packaging in the form of a cardboard book which contains accompanying text and period photographs.
