Product description

The fourth mushroom to appear on a silver coin from the Czech Mint’s twelve-part mycological series is the common chanterelle.

The yellow-orange color of the fruiting bodies of the chanterelle vaguely resembles a fox’s fur, which is why the mushroom shares its name with this animal. The sturdy stem supports a funnel-shaped, corrugated, and lobed cap. The mushroom is edible, delicious, with a distinctive aroma, though it is difficult to digest. It is not only a delicacy that shines in creamy sauces or sour soups, but also a valuable natural source of vitamins used in medicine.

The reverse side of the coin, designed by medalist Ludmila Kracíková, DiS., features a cluster of chanterelles hidden among ferns. The vivid colors were achieved using coloring technology. On the obverse side, which is common to the entire series, you will find wild nature teeming not only with mushrooms but also with plants and animals. Since the Czech Mint’s coins are issued with a foreign license from the island of Niue, the obverse side also bears its national coat of arms, the nominal value of 1 DOLLAR (NZD), and the year of issue 2026.

You can store all twelve coins from the “Mushrooms” series in an elegant collector’s album, which is also available from the Czech Mint.
