Product description

A two-ounce silver coin featuring the goddess Themis is a unique work of art and a technical masterpiece, as well as a collector’s rarity.

When we hear the word justice today, we picture a courtroom and a collection of laws. For the ancient Greeks, however, justice was not merely a set of enforceable rules. They believed in the existence of a natural order, which humans had not devised but to which they ought to submit. They found the invisible boundary between what is permissible and what is right in the relationship between man and nature, as well as between man and woman. This order was personified by the goddess Themis. She was respected not only by mortals but also by the other gods – she convened their assemblies, served as Zeus’s counsellor, and reminded them that the rules apply even to the most powerful…

The reverse side of the coin depicts the graceful Themis seated amongst ancient temples. In one hand she holds scales, which symbolise impartiality; with her other hand she rests on a sword, representing the power of the law; and her eyes are covered with a blindfold, for justice is blind. All this is rendered in high relief, embellished with patina, selective gilding, colouring and genuine sapphires. The richly decorated obverse side is dedicated to the essential attributes of the coin’s issuer, the state of Cameroon and bears its coat of arms, the nominal value of 2,000 CFA francs and the year of issue 2026.

The mintage of this coin by T&S Coin totals just 500 pieces.
