The first silver bar from the Czech Mint is the first of its kind to be made from a precious metal with a maximum purity of 999.9/1000, which is extremely rare. It evokes the old days of pin-up pictures, which helped soldiers cope with the realities of war.

The atmosphere at air bases during World War II was monotonous and gloomy full of gray steel, smoke, oil, and brown-green uniforms. Amid all this, however, a vision appeared. Red lips, slicked-back hair, short skirts, garters such were the girls who helped the airmen escape their daily routine. But they weren’t real, they were painted. Provocative images of self-assured beauties adorned barracks, workshops, and even the fuselages of bombers. They weren’t merely aesthetic decorations. Above all, they provided moral support in an environment filled with constant stress, danger, and separation from home. They reminded the men of fun, romance, and the normal world for which they were risking their lives… The rise of these illustrations was linked to the prewar growth of society magazines, advertising, and Hollywood films. Pilots enjoyed cutting them out and pinning them to the walls of their barracks or inside aircraft cockpits. This is where the name pin-up meaning “pinned up” comes from. Although pin-up posters were often criticized as too risqué or objectifying, the public came to view them as a tool for boosting morale. Today, they serve as a distinctive testament to American visual culture and the evolution of the ideal of female beauty in the mid-20th century.

The front of this colored silver coin features a pin-up illustration from the studio of Jiří Hanuš, DiS. It depicts a seductive female air force member sitting on the wing of a fighter jet. The frame surrounding the illustration is dotted with embossed stars, which reference the symbol of the United States. The reverse side features the coin’s specifications and the mark of the Czech Mint.

The mintage totals just 300 coins. Each coin is individually numbered.
