Czech Lion 2020

The “Czech Lions” - a series of investment coins minted with a foreign license by the Czech Mint – have been released in several different designs. One variant is a double-ounce silver coin minted in an unusual design “piedfort”.

The Czech Lion product series
is quite varied. It includes gold and silver mintages. Their weights correspond to the multiples and proportions of a troy ounce. The largest coins weighing a whole kilogram are the only exception. The basic design with a matt finish is called “standard”. Selected variants then appeared in the version "reverse proof", which excels in a matt coin surface and polished relief. Another special type of mintage that has expanded the lion's line is the so-called "piedfort". These coins have twice the weight of traditional mintage while maintaining the diameter, which means that they have twice the thickness. This type of mintage first appeared in the 12th century in France. This is mostly popular among the world´s investors and collectors.

The Czech Mint
reworked all variants of investment coins in 2020, but maintained the idea. Apart from the Czech lion in an untraditionally realistic design, the reverse side of the silver coin presents two more symbols of Czech statehood - the St. Wenceslas crown, which rests on the head of a two-tailed beast, and an eagle on shield that is a synthesis of St. Wenceslas, Moravian and Silesian birds of prey. The medal maker Asamat Baltaev, DiS. became the author of the relief.  The obverse side bears the attributes of the island of Niue, which provides the Czech Mint with a foreign license to mint its own coins. The attributes are the portrait and the name of Queen Elizabeth II, the year of the issue 2020 and the nominal value of 5 DOLLARS (NZD). All this is supplemented by linden branches.

The total schedule of iisuance counts 5500 pieces -
4450 of which are available separately in a protective capsule. Another 1000 pieces are placed in a special numbered packaging and remaining 50 pieces are part of a comprehensive set of silver coins.
