Czech-British set of two silver coins was published on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Britain. After the set, which commemorated the 100th anniversary of RAF in 2018, this is the second collaboration between The Royal Mint of Britain and the Czech Mint, which is its official partner.

The Battle of Britain
was supposed to be a mere prelude to the amphibious invasion of Third Reich troops on the British Isles, but eventually became the greatest air battle in history. Luftwaffe bombers, tasked with subverting naval supplies and breaking the population of Britain, devastated key infrastructure day and night and terrorized innocent civilians. However, the Royal Air Force RAF stood in their way. Although the British had excellent technology, they lacked expert pilots. Therefore, pilots from all over the planet rushed to their aid - Poles, New Zealanders, Canadians,… and dozens of Czechoslovaks who, after the disintegration of Czechoslovakia and the establishment of the protectorate, sought a way to fight the evil of the Nazi empire abroad. They excelled during the Battle of Britain and the entire Second World War, and the islanders do not hesitate to admit today that their country would no longer be here without Slavic heroism. The courage of the members of our crews was all the greater because, in the event of a shooting down and capture, they were not, unlike other pilots, considered prisoners of war, but - as citizens of the German-controlled Protectorate – high traitors. Nevertheless, two thousand men and women enlisted in the Royal Air Force…
