Product description

St. Vitus Cathedral builds an integral part of the capital city, but also of Czech history. It was founded by the Father of the Homeland in 1344. 675 years have passed, therefore, the Czech Mint issued a four-part set of silver coins on this occasion.

The first coin in the set was dedicated to the foundation stone-laying ceremony of the greatest and most significant Czech temple that was attended by Charles IV., John of Bohemia and Arnošt of Pardubice. Arnošt was one of the most important Czech clerics. He became the first Czech archbishop, therefore, the second coin was dedicated to him. However, the cathedral is not only a place of prayer and contemplation. The coronation events of the Czech kings, which is commemorated by the third coin, took place here, and it is still the resting place of a number of saints, rulers, nobles and archbishops, which is commemorated by the last coin in the set.

The expert medal maker and teacher MgA. Josef Oplištil became the author of all four coins. The reverse side of the first mintage presents a symbolic foundation stone with the date of November 21, 1344 and a parchment from which the future cathedral emerges in all its glory. The reverse side of the second coin also bears the silhouette of the cathedral, but its main motif is the bust of Arnošt of Pardubice. The reverse side of the third coin captures the moment of the royal coronation - a kneeling sovereign, whom the cleric puts the crown on the head - complemented by the illuminated interior of the cathedral and a fragment of the Saint Wenceslas Crown. The reverse side of the final coin is dedicated to the underground tomb of the Czech kings complemented by a decorated cross. Since all coins are issued with the foreign license of the island of Niue, their common obverse side bears the necessary attributes of this issuer. These are the name and the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, the nominal value of 1 DOLLAR and the year of the issue 2019 - set in the main nave of the cathedral, which the light beams pass through.

Four coins were placed in a luxurious wooden etui with a lid decorated with an engraving of a rosette - a circular window of the cathedral.
