Set of gold ducats of st. Wenceslas with gold certificate 2026 proof
Product description
The various St. Wenceslas ducats play an exceptional role in the history of Czech coinage. In 2026, the Czech Mint added a set of four gold coins to the collection, which, in addition to 1, 3, and 5-ducat coins, also includes a 10-ducat coin, which is not sold separately.
The story of how Prince Wenceslas of the Přemyslid dynasty was betrayed and murdered by his brother Boleslaus has become an integral part of our national identity. It has been passed down from generation to generation for a thousand years. The fate of the man who became the first saint of Czech origin is tangibly commemorated by his authentic relics - his skull, weapon, and armor. By decree of Charles IV, the Crown of St. Wenceslas, with which Czech kings were crowned, rested upon the saint’s skull. Knights were knighted with the Sword of St. Wenceslas, and other relics of St. Wenceslas include his chain mail shirt and helmet. An intangible reminder of Wenceslas’s reign is a series of Christian legends, thanks to which the prince became one of the most beloved saints, the patron saint of the Czech lands, and the only Czech saint whose feast day is part of the global calendar of the Roman Catholic Church. It is therefore no wonder that throughout history, a multitude of works of art - including gold coins - have paid tribute to him. The first ducats bearing the image of Saint Wenceslas were minted during the reign of the Jagiellonian dynasty. The standard weight of each ducat was set at 3.49 g, and the fineness of the gold used at 986/1000. Gradually, various multiples began to appear- from the two-ducat to the hundred-ducat and ducats remained legal tender for several more centuries. They were minted not only by Czech kings, but also by Czechoslovak ministers of finance. In the 21st century, the Czech Mint continues this tradition.
The author of the four-piece set is medalist Veronika Prokopová, DiS. The gold 1-ducat features Saint Wenceslas as a prince. The gold 3-ducat is dominated by the national patron as a knight. The gold 5-ducat depicts Saint Wenceslas as a martyr. The gold 10-ducat commemorates Saint Wenceslas as a legend. The reverse side, which is common to all four coins, features a flaming eagle framed by the year 2026 and the text of the famous hymn – DO NOT LET US OR OUR DESCENDANTS PERISH.
The set, with a mintage of 126 pieces, is stored in a luxurious wooden case and comes with a unique certificate coated in gold.
