The free cycle of gold half-ounce coins of the Czech Mint is dedicated to important personalities of world history. Ludwig van Beethoven joined the Hall of the Giants on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of his birth.
The German composer Ludwig van Beethoven composed even despite his cruel fate. When a man, for whom music was everything, began to lose hearing before the age of thirty, he got depressed. At first he considered suicide, but in the end he decided to live. What he gave the world, despite his deafness, surpassed his previous masterpieces. His work, which is described as "forever contemporary", completed the perfectly formal epoch of Viennese classicism and at the same time foreshadowed the sensitive expression of romantic composers. Although Beethoven is perceived as a torn hero, who was torn from the outside world and fought titanically for the noblest ideals, he also had a human side. He was an odd fish who indulged in alcohol and with whom no housekeeper could stand, and a sensitive soul who wrote love letters to dream lovers and tried to reform his naughty nephew in vain.
MgA. Tereza Eisnerová became the author of the commemorative coin. The reverse side is dominated by a portrait of a great composer, supplemented with his name LUDWIG VAN BEETHOVEN. The idea of the obverse side is then best described by the medal maker herself: “Beethoven's music seems to me like a natural element - a storm full of lightning, a storm or a tornado. Through this analogy, the monumentality and effect of Beethoven's musical work as well as the complex and uncompromising personality of a musical genius can be visually expressed. The notes used are based on the notation of Beethoven's most famous Fifth Symphony - Destiny. ” As it is a coin issued with a foreign license of the island of Niue, the obverse side still bears the necessary elements of this issuer - the name and portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, the nominal value of 25 DOLLARS and the year of issue 2020.
A pictorial certificate of authenticity builds an integral part of the coin which comes in a limited edition of 200 pieces.
