Product description

The Slovak silver euro coin was minted in quality standard to the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Dušan Samo Jurkovič.

Dušan Samo Jurkovič was one of the most outstanding personalities of 20th century Slovak architecture. His father was a well-known patriot and his mother a connoisseur of folk art, which was reflected in his characteristic authorial expression. The inspiration he found in folklore and folk architecture emanates, for example, from the late 19th century Pustevny na Radhošti set of excursion hostels. Jurkovič also designed a number of military cemeteries in the folk style. He created an iconic work of modern Slovak architecture - the mound of Milan Rastislav Štefánik at Bradlo in 1928. Another proof of Jurkovič's versatility are the industrial buildings from the 1930s, among which the top station of the cable car on Lomnický štít in the High Tatras stands out...

The reverse side of the coin bears a faithful portrait of the architect, supplemented with his name and the life years: DUŠAN SAMUEL JURKOVIČ, 1868-1947. The decorative accessories are fragments of stained glass. The obverse side presents Jurkovič's top architectural works - the Štefánik Mound and the cable car station on Lomnický štít. The composition of the obverse side is supplemented with the inscription SLOVENSKO (SLOVAKIA), the state emblem, the nominal value of 10 EURO and the year of issue 2018. All this is the work of the medal maker Karol Ličko.

The coin was minted by the Slovak Mint Mincovňa Kremnica and issued by the National Bank of Slovakia.
