We're heading to the Karlovy Vary Film Festival
The Dagmar and Václav Havel Foundation VIZE 97 has become the official nonprofit partner of the 60th anniversary edition of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. The foundation is also commemorating a milestone anniversary – the 90th birthday of Václav Havel, who always had a warm relationship with the film festival – and the Czech Mint will be there to mark the occasion.
The VIZE 97 Foundation and the Czech Mint share a long-standing friendship. In recent years, this partnership has resulted in dozens of commemorative medals and coins paying tribute to the late president, and now another has been created.
The design of the commemorative medal created by Jiří Harcuba (1928–2013) is based on an artwork that this renowned medal maker produced in 1998 to mark the 5th anniversary of Václav Havel’s (1936–2011) election as President of the Czech Republic. On the obverse, you will find a portrait of Václav Havel rendered in the author’s unmistakable style. The statesman’s profile is surrounded by the Czech text VÁCLAV HAVEL – 1ST PRESIDENT OF THE CZECH REPUBLIC. The reverse side is dominated by the famous quote translated as TRUTH AND LOVE MUST PREVAIL OVER LIES AND HATRED. As was typical for Jiří Harcuba, each individual letter is a unique sculptural work.
The 2-gram silver medal, with a mintage of 1000 pieces, will first be available for purchase at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival – directly at the VIZE 97 Foundation’s booth. It will then be available through the Czech Mint’s usual sales channels. In addition to this medal, other versions minted in silver and gold will also be produced:

This is the first issue from the Czech Mint released under the premium Czech Ducats brand.
By purchasing these medals, collectors will acquire a valuable memento of a precious man and, in addition, support the charitable activities of the VIZE 97 Foundation.
