Slovak Folk Costume Day

20/08/2023

Are you drawn to traditions and folklore? If so, open your calendars and mark the date 1 September 2023. That's when the Slovak Folk Costume Day will take place in Banská Bystrica and the Czech Mint will not be missing!

I will be there!

What is waiting for you? A rich cultural programme filled with tradition, folklore and folk art. A day full of fun, dancing, singing and beautiful costumes. But it's not just the costumes that will show you beautiful folk motifs...

During the day, we will present a fresh issue: the Silver Coin Double-armed Cross – Detva. Its reverse is decorated with beautiful Detvian embroidery with a crooked needle, an artistic technique straight from the heart of Podpoľanie. It is embedded in a Slovak double-armed cross and thus combines both national and regional heritage.

Attention! The edition is only 500 pieces and the first interested buyers have already been found! If you want to enrich your collection as soon as possible, we recommend you buy the coin via the e-shop before 31 August and write in the note that you will pick it up in person at the Folk Costume Day.

You will save on delivery and be one of the first to hold this precious coin in your hands.

I want a piece of Detva!

We firmly believe that on September 1 we will meet amidst a whirlwind of traditions, singing and dancing!

Your Slovak team of the Czech Mint

Update:

At the event, we presented our new silver coin with the motif of Detvian embroidery with a crooked needle, and 19 interested people immediately ordered it on the spot. We sincerely thank the mayor of Detva, Mr. Baran, for the opportunity to participate, and also Mrs. Smileková, who lent us beautiful folk costumes. In her shop Detvianské lidové umění at 75 Partizánská Street you can buy, among other things, our coin. Mrs. Smileková also runs courses where you can learn the aforementioned curved needle embroidery.
