Jizerská 50 in 2025

15/01/2025

Since 2020, the Czech Mint has been a proud partner of the Jizerská 50 and mints commemorative medals for all participants of the legendary ski race.

The reverse of these medals changes regularly. In 2020, it was dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the mountaineering tragedy and commemorated a group of fifteen men who died in an avalanche at the foot of Peru's Mount Huascarán. It is in their honour that Jizerská 50 is titled "Memorial Expedition Peru 1970".

From the following race onwards, the medal reverse presents a different encouraging motto each year, which the athletes and their fans help to choose. In 2021 it was "With my heart in the white trail", in 2022 "At the finish line, each their own winner", in 2023 "I am not running alone" and in 2024 "Sport, tradition, art". For 2025, the message of the medal is simple, strong and concise. The word "Loyalty" expresses the consistency, reliability and dedication with which skiers and organizers, professionals and enthusiasts have approached the Jizerská 50 for decades.

Medal makers are also loyal to the Jizerská 50. While the first five commemorative medals for the racers were created by Jiří Dostál, the sixth one was prepared by Vojtěch Dostál, who built on the work of his father.

In addition to the commemorative medals, the Czech Mint produced coins made of pure gold for the Jizerská 50, decorated with the majestic Czech lion. However, only the best of the best can look forward to the unusual prize money. More than 7,300 runners will take part in the spectacular event. Among them will be the popular director, actor, comedian, presenter, writer and scriptwriter Jakub Kohák, who at today's Jizerská 50 press conference gladly posed with our largest gold coin weighing 10 kilograms.

What about you? Will we see you in the white trail?
