Femme Fatale

The ninth Femme Fatale commemorated by a gold coin from the free cycle of the Czech Mint is the mythical Princess Libuše.

Krok, the mythical Duke of Bohemia, was a respectable, sophisticated and prudent man. People from all over the country flocked to him to be judged. He had three daughters: the eldest, Kazi, a sorceress and healer; the middle, Teta, a priestess who spoke to spirits; and the youngest, Libuse, a soothsayer whom the people chose to lead them after Krok's death. Like her father, she judged righteously the strife and disagreements among the people, but there were those who did not like her position. The cries of an angry elder "Long hair, short mind!" and "Shame on the men who are ruled by women!" have gone down in history. Although the princess was strong and could have reprimanded her critic, she, being wiser, decided to retreat and said, "I am a woman, and I behave like a woman; that I do not judge you with an iron scourge, I seem to you to understand little. It is necessary that you should have a stricter steward than a woman. Have him!" By the inspiration of the gods, she then appointed a place where the people found their new ruler. It was the mythical Přemysl the Ploughman, who, at Libuše's side, became the founder of the mighty dynasty of the Přemyslids...

The reverse side of the commemorative coin from the studio of the medal maker Vojtěch Dostál, DiS., is dominated by a portrait of a dreamy princess with a cloak and her hair in a braid. An additional motif is the silhouette of St. Vitus Cathedral, which refers to Libuše's prophecy about the foundation of the great city. As the coins of the Czech Mint are issued with the foreign licence of the island of Niue, they bear its national emblem on the obverse side, the nominal value of 50 DOLLARS (NZD) and the year of issue 2024.

The one troy ounce gold coin is issued in a mintage of only 200 pieces.
