Product description

The year 2023 marks the 30th anniversary of the Czech Republic. This historical milestone of our statehood is commemorated by a gold coin of the Czech Mint.

If we do not take into account the period of the Second World War, the common state of Czechs and Slovaks existed from 28 October 1918 to 31 December 1992. Its name changed many times during that time. We have had the Czechoslovak Republic, the Czecho-Slovak Republic, the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Czech and Slovak Federative Republic. In 1918, the main motive for the creation of the common state was the desire to gain control over the German and Hungarian population, but this reason disappeared at the end of the second millennium. On the other hand, the differences between Czechs and Slovaks were becoming more and more obvious. Therefore, the two nations separated from each other after 74 long years. It was a peaceful parting. The chaos experienced by the inhabitants of the disintegrating Yugoslavia and the Soviet Union did not take place in the heart of Europe.“The Velvet Divorce“, as the Western media called the situation, still serves as an example of a positive division of the state that can ultimately lead to improved and strengthened relations between nations. The two republics, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, are still close to each other - and not only geographically. Our cultures, languages, mindsets and characters are so similar that we will always remain “bratia“ (brothers)…

Academic sculptor Zbyněk Fojtů dedicated the reverse side of the coin to various attributes of Czech statehood - the great state emblem, the borders, the presidential flag and St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague. The composition of the reverse is completed by the texts ČESKÁ REPUBLIKA, 1. 1. 1993, PRAHA. The obverse side is dominated by the Brno Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul, accompanied by the inscription BRNO.  Since the licence to issue commemorative coins of the Czech Mint is granted by the Pacific island of Niue, the obverse side bears its necessary elements - the national emblem, the nominal value of 250 DOLLARS (NZD) and the year of issue 2023.

The large coin commemorates the great event - the weight of the gold coin is derived from the historic forty-ducats.
