Product description

The half-ounce gold medal of the Czech Mint, which is part of the free cycle of the most beautiful unrealised designs entered into the Czech National Bank's competitions, pays tribute to the JAWA 250 motorcycle type 353.

The engineering company of engineer František Janeček
was originally involved in arms production. However, there were a large number of similar arms factories in Czechoslovakia and the peace situation between the two world wars caused a sharp drop in demand. Therefore, Janeček's company had to take a new direction and, after experimenting with typewriters and bearings, started to produce motorcycles. The development of a new motorcycle of its own design would have been too demanding for the armoury - especially in terms of time. The ideal solution turned out to be the acquisition of a foreign licence, and the choice fell on the Wanderer company, whose machines had been proved during the war. The terms of the transaction were favourable - the German company was also affected by the downturn in military orders, and therefore provided the Czech company not only with a licence for its existing motorcycle, but also with complete production facilities. The Saxon production, which wanted to compete with the BMW brand, was thus terminated and František Janeček founded a new company on 17 August 1929. Its name was created by elegantly combining the names Janeček and Wanderer, and the same year JAWA presented its first mass-produced motorcycle at the Prague Motor Show... It didn't just stop there - over the following decades JAWA built a whole range of motorcycles that were not only functional, but also beautiful. It presented the JAWA 250 Type 353, which was built as part of the centrally planned National Series between 1954 and 1962. The distinctive feature of this motorcycle was the rear swingarm, which the previous models did not have, and which earned the nickname "Kývačka". The excellent design and high utility value of the Czechoslovak machine was evidenced by its huge sales success at home and abroad - it was exported to 120 countries around the world!

The reverse side of the medal, designed by
Asamat Baltaev, DiS., is dominated by a view of the motorcycle in all its glory. The composition is completed by the JAWA logo, an inscription of the JAWA 250 and the year of issue 2022.The reverse side presents a detailed side view of the front of the motorcycle, with the text ČESKÁ REPUBLIKA incorporated into it.

The medal is issued in an edition of only
99 pieces. Each piece is hand numbered on the edge.
