Famous artists

The free cycle of half-ounce gold coins of the Czech Mint, which commemorates important personalities of world history, presents its first Czech - Antonín Dvořák. He joined the hall of greats in the year that marked the 180th anniversary of his birth.

He was an unrivalled
symphonist, creator of chamber music, conductor and professor who raised a whole generation of followers. He laid the foundations of Czech cantata and oratorio music and his operas have become a treasure of national music and drama. His traditional yet modern work introduced our culture far beyond the borders of the Czech lands... Antonín Dvořák became a musical legend during his lifetime, and not only in his beloved homeland - without exaggeration, he was adored by the whole world. His 9th Symphony "From the New World", in which the composer captured the atmosphere of the booming United States and the nostalgic homesickness, is one of the most beautiful things ever composed, and it is no wonder that the Americans, on whose soil it was written, consider the most famous Czech to be their composer. "New World Symphony" even became the first song to be performed after the Apollo 11 landing on the moon. Despite all his fame, Antonín Dvořák remained a simple and humble man who loved his family and his home above all else. It is not without interest that music was not his greatest passion. "I would give all my symphonies if I invented the locomotive," confided the genius composer...

The reverse side of the coin, which is the work of the medal maker
MgA. Petra Čánská, bears the composer's portrait from the time of his greatest fame. The composition is supplemented with his autograph and the name ANTONÍN DVOŘÁK. The obverse side is then dedicated to Dvořák's most famous opera - Rusalka - and presents a lake with waves formed by the stave and the names of famous works: NOVOSVĚTSKÁ, RUSALKA, ČERT A KÁČA, ARMIDA (NEW WORLD SYMPHONY, RUSALKA, THE DEVIL AND KATE, ARMIDA). As this is a coin issued with a foreign licence from the island of Niue, the obverse side still bears the necessary attributes of that issuer, which are incorporated into the lunar disc - the name and portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, the nominal value of 25 DOLLARS and the year of issue 2021.

A pictorial certificate of authenticity is an integral part of the coin, which is issued in a limited edition of only
200 pieces.
