Old Picture Postcards

The Czech Mint introduces another Prague monument which is the Petrin Tower that appears on the gold mini coin set in a replica of a historical postcard.

The Petrin Tower
was established thanks to the efforts of the Czech Tourists' Club on the occasion of the Provincial Jubilee Exhibition in 1891. Although it was an attractive addition to the Prague skyline, it did not become the subject of many multi-shot postcards at the end of the 19th century. The postcard, which served as a proposal for a coin packaging, presents not only a modern observation tower, but also a chapel on the Petrin way of the cross and the famous mirror maze. The postcard of the academic painter Pavel Körber was published by the important Czech publisher Alois Wiesner. It was sent from Prague to Podmoklice near Semily in 1899.

Medal maker
Petr Patka, DiS., placed a perspective view of the steel structure of the tower on the reverse side of the coin. He supplemented it with a decorative inscription PETŘÍN - 378 m, which is the altitude of the upper part of the lookout tower. The obverse side then belongs to the portrait and name of Queen Elizabeth II, the year of the issue 2020 and the nominal value of 5 DOLLARS (NZD) - or the necessary elements of the island of Niue, which provides the Czech Mint with a foreign license to mint its own commemorative coins.

The original issue is an available collector's item that will delight numismatists, deltiologists and visitors of the capital city.
