Old Picture Postcards

Another gold coin of the Czech Mint weighing one half of a gram is placed in the replica of the historical postcard and reminds the Estates Theater of Prague.

The theater was originally named after the enlightened patriot count František Antonín Nostice-Rieneck, who opened it as a public scene. It soon became famous as the venue for the world premiere of Don Giovanni, which was dedicated by Mozart to the Prague. The Czech state bought the theater after the death of count Nostice. It became a place where professional theater in the Czech language could be played before the establishment of the National Theater. It was the Estates Theater where the premiere of Josef Kajetán Tyl´s Fidlovačka was played. It entered the history with the song Kde domov můj that was composed by František Škroup, and which later became our national anthem ... The Estates Theater is not only significant but also beautiful. The classicist building is one of the most beautiful historical theater buildings in Europe. However, it was not a frequent motif of historical postcards due to its location at Ovocný market. A print was published by F. Ehrlich in Prague in 1899, and it portrays the buildings of the Estates Theater and the New German Theater connected with the decorative theatrical symbolism. "The collector's valuable light-printing window postcard, which follows the aesthetics of popular lithographs, had not been sent and it was certainly the decoration of a collection of Prague postcards," explains the collector Pavel Vursta, who provides the Czech Mint with original historical postcards.

The reverse side of the coin which was made by the medal maker Petra Brodská, DiS., presents the contemporary form of the Estates Theater, which has been reconstructed for 235 years. The building is surrounded by an inscription THE ESTATES THEATRE - PRAGUE. The obverse side belongs to the attributes of Niue Island, an issuer that provides the Czech Mint with a foreign license to coin its own commemorative coins. These are the name and the profile of the Emperor Elizabeth II, the year of the issue 2019 and the nominal value of 5 DOLLARS (NZD).

The issue, which attracts both numismatics and philocartists, represents an addition to the collection as well as a valuable gift or regional present.
