Gold coin of the Slovak National Bank for investors and collectors
Slovakia’s commemorative coins are struck in Kremnica Mint and issued by the Slovak National Bank. The issuer of the commemorative coins chose the collector series called Bratislava Coronations. In 2012, a coin marking the 300th anniversary of Karol III coronation was minted.
Bratislava coronations remind us of the great period in history of the Slovak capital when many Hungarian kings and queens were crowned here between 1563 and 1830. Following the battle of Mohacs in August 1526 and the Turkish occupation of the southern part of Hungary (including Buda /part of Budapest/, the coronation city of Székesfehérvár and Esztergom) the need to establish a new administrative centre of the country was extremely urgent. It was to be a town guaranteeing the security of monarchs and clergy and situated as close as possible to Vienna. As Bratislava met both requirements, the town was chosen. As a new coronation town Bratislava witnessed its greatest progress in this period. It became a parliamentary city of the kingdom, seat of the king, archbishop and principal institutions of the country.
