Czech Lion 2019

The gift variant of the investment coin was stored in a special numbered packaging on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Czechoslovak currency.

The first investment coins that are minted in the Czech Republic are called the "Czech Lion". They were issued with a foreign license by the Czech Mint. Every single investor can easily control how much money he or she invests. For that reason there are a number of variants. A gold coin weighing 1/25 ounce is the smallest one.

When using the word ounce, the expression must be further specified. There are many variants of this unit, some of which relate to the weight and other to volume. Troy ounce (abbreviated to "oz") is a universally valid unit of weight in the international trade of precious metals - especially gold, silver and platinum - but also gemstones. Its name was derived from the French shopping center Troyes and it has been used since the Middle Ages. One troy ounce weighs exactly 31.1034768 grams. Its multiples or shares are commonly used to express the price of metals - usually in US dollars per troy ounce.

The Czech Mint was inspired by the traditional symbols of the Czech Republic when producing the patriotic relief of investment coins. The reverse side presents an untraditionally realistic two-tailed lion that guards the St. Wenceslas crown and the St. Wenceslas eagle on the shield. The obverse side bears the attributes of Niue Island that provides the Czech Mint with a foreign licence to coin its own coins. These are the portrait and the name of Queen Elizabeth II, the year of the issue 2019 and the nominal value of 5 DOLLARS (NZD). The composition of the obverse side is supplemented by a linden branch. The coin has two authors and it was designed by the leading artist Jaroslav Bejvl, who died at the age of 75 and did not manage to finish it. Therefore, the gifted medal maker Asamat Baltaev, DiS. continues processing this masterpiece.

The gold coin stored in a special packaging represents an addition to a numismatic collection or investment portfolio, but also an original gift.
