Traditional Ducat Series

The ducat series of the Czech Mint follows the footsteps of our ancestors in 2021. The very first ancestors were the prehistoric cave people who created the Venus of Věstonice. You will find it on the gold ducat.

The thirty thousand-year-old statuette of a naked woman of plump shapes
testifies the artistic feelings of our oldest ancestors and their skills. It commemorates mammoth hunters and it is the oldest known work made of burnt clay in the world, and thus a proof of the very beginning of pottery.

"The dominant feature of the obverse side is the
depiction of the Venus of Věstonice. In the low relief in the background behind the statue there are cave paintings of animals which symbolize the historical period from which the artefact comes. The free space is filled with ornaments inspired by the engraving of Geometric Venus that is another prehistoric monument found in our territory, " Lenka Nebeská, DiS, the author of the ducat explains. The reverse side, which is common to all four mintages of the Ducat series, then presents decorative ornaments inspired by our prehistoric, Celtic, Moravian and Czech ancestors.

The schedule of issuance of commemorative mintage counts only
200 pieces and respects the specifications defined by the famous St. Wenceslas ducats. The gold ducat is not only an addition to the collection, but also a traditional gift - for example for baptism.
