Product description

The Perth Mint continues its series of bullion coins with Eastern Zodiac motifs. The one troy ounce silver coin is dedicated to 2024, the year of the dragon.

The Eastern zodiac, which is also known as the Chinese zodiac, contains twelve signs - twelve animals that represent twelve temperaments with both positive and negative traits. Unlike the classical horoscope known in Europe, each of these signs belongs to one whole year, and the twelve-year cycle begins anew when all the animals have been replaced,... The year 2024 is dedicated to the fifth animal of the Chinese zodiac - the dragon. Why this mythical creature? Legend tells of the Jade Emperor who ruled the heavens and sought someone to guard his palace. Twelve animals competed for the emperor's favour - a rat, a buffalo, a tiger, a hare, a dragon, a snake, a horse, a goat, a monkey, a rooster, a dog and a pig. Their position in the palace was to be decided by a great race. The strong buffalo was the favourite, but little did he know that a cunning rat had settled on his back and jumped off just before the finish line, depriving him of the victory. Third came the agile tiger and fourth the nimble hare. Surprisingly, the flying dragon came fifth - he was good-hearted and stopped along the way to help villagers in need. Eventually, he also nudged the hare, which was stuck in the middle of the river, to its destination... People who are born under the influence of a dragon become natural leaders - powerful, influential and energetic. They are quick to make decisions and do not hesitate to overcome obstacles to achieve their goals. At the same time, they tend to be egotistic. They tend to be short-tempered and demanding, so it is not easy to satisfy them.

The reverse side of the silver coin presents a traditional depiction of an Asian dragon with mist billowing from its mouth. The composition is supplemented with inscriptions in Chinese and English and the year 2024. The special mintmark P125 commemorates the 125th anniversary of the Perth Mint. The obverse side of the coin is entirely dedicated to the attributes of the issuer, which is Australia. It bears a nominal value of 1 DOLLAR (AUD) and a portrait of Elizabeth II, which commemorates the Queen. The design of the coin is the work of Perth Mint designer Ing Jong.

The silver coin represents a valuable investment and an attractive gift - for example, to the birth of a child.
