Product description
There was a change in 1989. It began inconspicuously, but the intensity of protests in Czechoslovakia surprised the ruling politicians, the opposition and the general public. The Communist regime responded with brute force, but this time it was different - people were not afraid. However, the creators of totalitarianism did not realize that their days were numbered.
The Czech Mint issued the four-part mini-series of gold commemorative coins to the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the revolutionary year 1989. This set commemorates the key events and personalities of the Czechoslovak path to freedom:
- The first coin was dedicated to the so-called "Palach Week" - a commemorative act dedicated to the anniversary of Jan Palach's self-burning, which turned into a massive manifestation of civil resistence that lasted for seven days.
- The second coin pays tribute to Karel Kryl, the “poet with guitar” - the most prominent representative of the anti-communist protestsong that did not lack satire and melancholy.
- The third coin was dedicated to the Václav Havel´s manifesto entitled “Several Sentences”, which broke the barrier between the dissent and the general public through its factual and non-offensive text.
- The fourth coin commemorates the "Velvet Revolution" - a sequence of events that led to the definitive Fall of the Iron Curtain and allowed the citizens of Czechoslovakia to make free decisions.
You can store the complete mini-series in this elegant collector´s etui made of dark wood. Its cap is decorated with an engraving in the form of a chain symbolizing oppression and unfreedom. A torn chain presents the hope for change.
