Product description
The Royal Mint's collectible series of commemorative coins is dedicated to the greatest figures in British pop music. The fourth musical legend is rock band The Who.
The master of guitar chords Pete Townshend, whose distinctive hand-waving gave him the nickname The Windmill, the charismatic singer Roger Daltrey, who threw the microphone among the audience, the drummer Keith Moon, who hit everything with his drumsticks, and the seemingly calm bassist John Entwistle, who kept a bunch of lively hooligans at bay. This was the original line-up of the British band The Who, whose most famous song sings "I hope I die before I get old". Two members of the band got their wish, but their rock legacy lives on...
The reverse side of the coin, which is the work of artist Henry Gray, is dominated by The Who's iconic symbolism - the band's logo, a Rickenbacker guitar and a pierced speaker - combined to form a pinball machine that references the famous rock opera "Tommy". The obverse side of the coin then belongs to the attributes of the issuer - i.e. the nominal value of 5 POUNDS (GBP), the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, the text "ELIZABETH II D G REG F D" (Elizabeth II, by the grace of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith) and the year of issue 2021.
The coin comes with a special packaging full of photographs and interesting facts (in English).
