Elizabeth II came to the throne on 6 February 1952. Exactly 70 years have passed since then, and the UK can celebrate the Queen's platinum jubilee. To mark the occasion, The Royal Mint has issued a number of thematic issues - including this commemorative coin featuring the Queen's honours.

The Order of the British Empire, the Order of the Bath, the Victoria Cross, the George Cross, the George Medal, the Distinguished Flying Cross, ... The British monarch has a range of state honours with which to recognise the exceptional service of her subjects - whether they are soldiers or civilians who have contributed to the arts, culture, science, medicine, sport or charity. During her reign, Elizabeth II awarded more than 400,000 different honours...

The Irish artist P. J. Lynch used these and many other decorations as a metaphor to express the devotion of Elizabeth II. to the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth. They are accompanied on the reverse by the Queen's signature, which appears on the coin for the first time. The obverse side is then dedicated to the attributes of the issuer - i.e. the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, the text ELIZABETH II D G REG F D (Elizabeth II, by the Grace of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith), the year 2022 and the nominal value of 5 POUNDS (GBP).

The commemorative coin, stamped from base metal, is stored in a special packaging that presents in words and pictures the awarding of British honours (in English).
