Product description
Another silver coin from the series inspired by the Lord of the Rings film trilogy, commemorates the majesty of Argonath.
The continent's largest river called the Anduin rises in the mountains of northwestern Middle-earth. Those who follow its course will visit both Lórien and Rohan and eventually sail all the way to Gondor. The northern border of the mighty kingdom of human is guarded by a gorge called Argonath. From afar, two gigantic statues representing Elendil and Isildur catch the eye of the traveller. Those who pass between them will feel a sacred awe. The ancient rulers have one arm outstretched in a warning gesture, the other reaching for a weapon. The purpose of the “king's stones“ was to show the strength of the nation that built them, and thus to deter anyone who would come to Gondor with evil intentions. Members of the Fellowship of the Ring who traveled to Mordor saw the majesty of Argonath firsthand…
The reverse side of the coin is dominated by the Argonath Gorge with its giant statues of kings on the banks of the river. The relief is patinated, emphasizing even the smallest details. The obverse side is then dedicated to the necessary attributes of the issuer, which is the island of Niue - i.e. the national emblem, the nominal value of TWO DOLLARS (NZD) and the year of issue 2023. The coin was minted with official film licence by the New Zealand Mint team.
An elegant etui builds an integral part of the issue.
