Product description

Commemorative coin of the Royal Mint commemorates the coronation of King Charles III.

Charles III became King of Great Britain on 8 September 2022 immediately after death of his mother Elizabeth II. However, there is still a coronation ceremony which has been set for 6 May 2023 to confirm his status. The island kingdom last experienced a similar ceremony 70 years ago. During the coronation at Westminster Abbey, the King and his wife Camilla will be anointed with oil that has been consecrated at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. Afterwards, Charles III will receive from the Archbishop of Canterbury the royal apple, the sceptre, the coronation ring and two crowns. In addition to the crown of St. Edward, the crown of the British Empire will rest on the monarch's head. The procession goes to Buckingham Palace, from whose balcony the royal family will greet the people. However, the celebrations will continue…

The reverse side of the coin, designed by artist Timothy Noad, presents the British insignia of royal power - the Crown and Sceptres of St. Edward. The text on the reverse side says THE CORONATION OF KING CHARLES III, 6 MAY 2023. The obverse side is then dedicated to the crowned portrait of Charles III, which is the work of sculptor Martin Jennings. The monarch's profile is surrounded by the text CHARLES III D G REX F D (Charles III, by the grace of God, King, Defender of the Faith), the nominal value of 5 POUNDS (GBP) and the year of issue 2023.

The design of the coin, which is placed in a package full of interesting information about the coronation (in English), was personally approved by the new British King.
