Product description

This commemorative coin from The Royal Mint commemorates the 250th anniversary of the birth of Sir Walter Scott, a writer whose work influenced the literary world of the first half of the 19th century.

Walter Scott
spent his childhood with his grandfather on the Scottish-English border, where he was enchanted by local tales and folklore. Although he became a lawyer, he never lost his imagination or his admiration for the past. He began to write romantic poems of the harsh old days of Scotland and England and then moved on to grand historical novels in which he realistically depicted the crises of the feudal Middle Ages. Scott's best-known novel is undoubtedly Ivanhoe, which takes place as King Richard the Lionheart returns to his homeland from the Crusades...

The reverse side of the coin, which is the work of artist Stephen Raw, presents the writer's bust supplemented with the decorative inscription SIR WALTER SCOTT and the English texts NOVELIST, HISTORIAN, POET, 250TH ANNIVERSARY OF HIS BIRTH. The year of issue 2021 completes the composition of the reverse side. The obverse side of the coin is then dedicated to the attributes of the issuer - i.e. the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, the text ELIZABETH II D G REG F D (Elizabeth II, by the grace of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith) and the nominal value of 2 POUNDS (GBP).

The commemorative coin stamped in base metal is stored in a special packaging that tells the story of Walter Scott in words and pictures (in English).
