Product description
British currency is the oldest currency still in use and one of the most respected in the world. The Royal Mint's 2021 collection presents a complete set of the island kingdom's metallic coins.
The set includes a total of eight British circulation coins, including the 12-sided one-pound coin, which is considered the most secure coin in the world thanks to its advanced anti-counterfeiting features (such as the 'hologram' on the obverse side). Six coins with nominal values ranging from 1 to 50 pence, which, when properly aligned, form an unusual numismatic puzzle.
The combined reliefs of the reverse sides of the six pence coins (50, 20, 10, 5, 2 and 1p) reveal the majestic national emblem. The one-pound coin bears the English rose, Welsh leek, Scottish thistle and Northern Irish clover - plant motifs symbolizing the four nations of the United Kingdom - on the reverse side. The reverse side of the two-pound coin is then dominated by a personification of Britannia with helmet, shield and trident. The obverse sides of the coins bear a profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, the year of issue 2021 and an abbreviated Latin inscription which can be translated as 'Elizabeth II, by the grace of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith'.
All of the coins, which are stored in a common packaging full of interesting facts (in English), have been minted in quality "brilliant" - they have never been in circulation, which could damage them, and their relief is more detailed than conventional currency.
