Product description
Every Star Wars fan knows him and loves him. We are talking, of course, about the fateful astromech with the designation R2-D2, without which we can not imagine the legendary galactic saga. To him therefore rightly belongs another silver commemorative coin from the series Star Wars.
The role of blue and white droid with a tubular body, three-legged and rounded head was played by the British actor of small stature, Kenny Baker. He first appeared in 1977 in the very first Star Wars adventure with the subtitle A New Hope. Never mind, that he talked and communicated by the beeping only - heimmediately won the hearts of viewers worldwide. He also played a pivotal role in five other sequels along with his inseparable friend C-3PO - the muddleheaded protocol droid, played by Anthony Daniels - they are the only characters that have appeared in all parts of the old and the new trilogy. In 2016, when this commemorative coin came out, a very sad news arrived - Kenny Baker, at the age of 81 years died of a protracted illness. In the hearts of fans, however, he will remain forever and his mechanical hero will keep on emerging on silver screens.
On the background is visible a part of the sandy vehicle of Jawas - the desert scrap collectors, who kidnapped the unfortunate droid and sold him out. The obverse of the coin is dedicated to the attributes of the issuer, which is the Pacific island of Niue - the portrait and the name of Queen Elizabeth II., the year of the issue 2016 and the nominal value of the coin 25 DOLLARS (NZD). The design of the coin was created by the design team of the New Zealand Mint.
