Product description

War, disease, … – wherever people suffer, the Red Cross helps. Support its charitable activities with us! The silver medal boasts an extraordinary story.

Swiss businessman Henri Dunant witnessed the battle at the Italian town of Solferina in 1859, and he was so impressed by the inadequate medical care provided to the suffering people that he decided to establish an organization that would give them a chance to live - the Red Cross. An English noblewoman who, despite the dangers and discomfort plunged into the the Crimean War, where she cared for the wounded, became the inspiration for his selfless help. Florence Nightingale has become a pioneer in nursing and we still draw on her groundbreaking methods. "Although I am the founder of the Red Cross, I share the respect I have received with an English lady. What made me go to the battlefield near Solferino and help was the great example that Florence gave us in the Crimea, " Henri Dunant said. It is only convenient that we can pay tribute to the woman who took care of the people in need day and night in the year when the coronavirus rampage hit the world. The medal also acknowledges everyone - professionals and volunteers - who make the world a better place even 200 years after Florence Nightingale's birth.

The obverse side of the mintage was processed by the medal maker MgA. Martin Dašek. It presents a portrait of Florence Nightingale inspired by period photography, her name and the life years 1820–1910. The Red Cross symbol is placed in the background. The reverse side is completely filled with the words THANK YOU in a number of foreign languages.

We will donate 8 EUR from each sold silver medal to the Slovak Red Cross, which is the patron of the issue. If you buy this silver medal, you will donate to a good cause and at the same time you will enrich your collection with an extraordinary piece. If you want to thank someone who helped you in difficult times, then you can use the medal as a gift – for this purpose, it is placed in a special packaging where you can add a dedication…
