Product description
Slovakia is a country of high mountains, deep valleys and dense forests. Thanks to its diverse landscape, it is a paradise for many rare animals, such as the wolf, lynx and bear, which are honoured in a set of three silver coins.
The grey wolf is the largest European canine, the Eurasian lynx is the largest European feline, and the brown bear is the largest European mammal. In nature, they are predators and play a key role in maintaining ecological balance. Unfortunately, they have one more thing in common – they are endangered species. They face many threats from humans, including poaching, loss of natural habitat and persistent fears based on myths and ignorance. However, fear of these animals is unfounded – if basic rules of contact are observed, the risk of conflict is minimal. Wolves, lynxes and bears, whose presence is proof of a healthy and functioning ecosystem, are fortunately protected by law, so future generations will also be able to get to know them...
The three coins feature elaborate reliefs by three leading medal designers:
Medal designer MgA. Josef Oplištil placed three wolves on the obverse side of the coin, supplemented with the silhouette of the Slovak map and wolf footprints. The reverse side features three more wolves, one howling at the moon and another in silhouette. The inscription gives the Slovak name for the species – VLK DRAVÝ.
The reverse side of the coin, which is the work of medal designer Mgr. Art. Roman Lugár, is dominated by the head of a lynx depicted in profile. The texts give the Slovak and Latin names of the species: RYS OSTROVID – LYNX. The obverse side of the coin, designed by medal designer Tomáš Lamač, DiS., shows the footprints of an adult lynx watching its cubs at play.
Medal designer Tomáš Lamač, DiS., dedicated the obverse side of the coin to a bear family – a female bear with two cubs hunting fish. The obverse side of the coin then presents a detail of the head of a bear roaring and baring its fangs. The inscriptions give the Slovak and Latin names of the species: MEDVEĎ HNEDÝ – URSUS ARCTOS.
The relief on all three coins also features the Slovak national emblem, the text SLOVENSKO 2025 and the nominal value 3.33 EURO.
The commemorative coins, minted by Mincovňa Kremnica and issued by National Bank of Slovakia are stored in an elegant wooden case.
