Product description

A newborn baby is always in the spotlight and its loved ones are competing to see who will give him or her the best gift. The Czech Mint has prepared a gold ducat to the birth of a child in the Slovak variant for anyone looking for an original, yet traditional gift.

Our ancestors gave the
lucky penny to newborns. The baby was usually given a talisman in the form of a coin made of precious metal by the godfather or godmother in the families of rich noblemen and poor peasants. They used to give the coin in the cradle, giving rise to the phrases "in the wrapper" and "in the swaddle", which are still used in connection with baby gifts today. The precious gift was intended to ensure that the baby would not suffer privations in life and became the first investment in its future. The parents of the newborn then cherished it for the baby until adulthood…

The ducat
2022 was designed by the medal maker Petr Patka, DiS. The obverse side is dedicated to a pair of cute babies, which is supplemented with a heart and the Slovak inscription DUKÁT K NARODENIU DIEŤAŤA (DUCAT TO THE BIRTH OF A CHILD). You will also find a boy and a girl on the reverse side, where they are surrounded by zodiac signs and various children's motifs.

The ducat is packaged in a gift box together with a certificate of authenticity.
