The Jáchymov thaler was a silver coin that originated in the Czech Kingdom in 1520. The currency, which was famous for the exceptional quality of the metal, spread throughout Europe and its success prompted the minting of many imitations. The Bohemian tolar became, for example, the Dutch daler, which was used for payment in the American colonies. Another corruption of the Czech word gave rise to the famous dollar. Throughout history, thalers have served mainly for commercial purposes, but they have also played a representative role. Due to their beauty and, above all, their value, they became a proven gift given to babies so that they would not suffer privations in life., The cradle penny was almost forgotten after World War II, however, the Czech Mint decided to revive this tradition by minting its own silver thalers designed specifically for the occasion of the birth of a child. The beauty and value of the silver remained and an incalculable personal value was added in the form of an engraved dedication.

Medal maker Lenka Nebeská, DiS., dedicated the obverse side of the silver thaler to a sleeping baby carried by a stork. The reverse side is then reserved for engraving text, which can take the form of a personal message, name or date of birth. There are no limits to imagination.
