Product description
The Czech Mint's silver commemorative medal to the birth of a child combines two ancient Czech traditions - the custom of giving a precious metal coin for good luck to a newborn child and the historical minting of so-called thalers.
Did you know that thalers spread from Bohemia to the whole world? Count Šlik started minting them in Jáchymov in the 16th century. As the Czech lands abounded in silver, they were to replace gold coins, for which there was not enough precious metal in Europe. The name thaler later gave rise to many other coins and currencies, including the world-famous dollar. Throughout history, thalers have been used primarily for commercial purposes, but they have also played a representational role. These roles are still fulfilled today - the thaler to the birth of a child combines the material value of the artistically processed pure metal with a personal value which is enhanced by an engraved dedication.
The design of the thaler for 2022 is the work of medal maker Petr Patka, DiS. The obverse side is dedicated to a pair of cute babies, supplemented with a heart and the inscription TOLAR K NAROZENÍ DÍTĚTE (THALER TO THE BIRTH OF A CHILD). Around the perimeter of the reverse side you will find beads inscribed with the signs of the zodiac. This relief defines the space for engraving the text, which can take the form of a personal message, name, date of birth, ... - there are no limits to imagination. The maximum size of the engraved text is limited to 4 lines of 15 characters including spaces.
The issue is stored in an elegant gift packaging that you can also customize. In addition to the thaler, it also contains a certificate of authenticity with space for inscribing a personal dedication and baby details.
