Product description
The Slovak silver euro coin, minted in quality standard, commemorates the beauties of the Vihorlat Protected Landscape Area.
The Vihorlat Protected Landscape Area is situated in the easternmost part of Slovakia, included by the central part of the mountain range of the same name. Although with an area of 25 350 hectares it is one of the smallest large protected areas in Slovakia, it abounds in immeasurable natural wealth. Forests, especially beech forests, and lakes, such as Morskie Oko, which is one of the most beautiful bodies of water in the country, are important in the volcanic area. On the border of Pannonian and Carpathian flora, 600 species of higher plants, 110 species of mosses, 60 species of lichens and 400 species of fungi grow here. The fauna is also diverse in terms of species - there are 2000 species of invertebrates and many rare vertebrates. Among the rarest are the black stork, the short-toed eagle and the golden eagle.
Medal maker Mgr. Art. Roman Lugár dedicated the reverse side of the coin to a deer drinking from the Morskie Oko. The obverse side is also dedicated to animals found around the volcanic lake - the green sundew and the dragonfly. The relief of the coin is supplemented with the Slovak national emblem, the nominal value of 20 EURO and the texts CHRÁNENÁ KRAJINNÁ OBLASŤ VIHORLAT, SLOVENSKO, 2023.
The coin was minted by the Slovak Mint Mincovňa Kremnica and issued by the National Bank of Slovakia.
