Two legends of Slovak culture - Milan Lasica and Július Satinský - appear on a joint commemorative medal minted from pure silver by the Czech Mint.
Humouristic duos have a great tradition in Czechoslovak culture. The most prominent Slovak duo, which became famous on theatre stages and television screens, was the cult duo of Milan Lasica and Julius Satinský. While Lasica cultivated a charming and distant personality, the spiky and folksy Satinský was his opposite. Their humour, inspired by the absurd theatre, was nonsensical and full of paradoxes, playful yet sophisticated. He drew on language and play on words, often from regional Slovak dialects or foreign words, and worked with music and song. He helped many people live through the difficult times of normalization and proved that even a totalitarian regime does not have the power to stop creativity, laughter and friendship...
Slovak medal maker Mgr. Art. Miroslav Hric, Art.D., dedicated the obverse side of the medal to Július Satinský, who is whispering conspiratorially to Milan Lasica. Silhouettes of the heads of both artists connected by a common hat can be found on both the obverse and reverse side of the medal. The medal bears the names LASICA & SATINSKÝ, the decorative initials L&S and the quote by Milan Lasica "CESTU SME MALI SPOLOČNÚ, ALE NOHY MA BOLIA VLASTNÉ" (translated as "WE SHARED THE ROAD, BUT MY OWN FEET HURT").
