Stories of Our History

The story of czech Boy Scouts tells of a sense of duty and respect for nature. It is commemorated by the fifth commemorative medal from the cycle "Stories of our history" made of pure silver by the Czech Mint.

The Scout Association was founded in 1907 in England and suddenly spread all over the world - including the Austro-Hungarian Empire, where the first Czech Scout camp was held in 1912. Czech scouts overcame the First World War and actively participated in Foundation of the republic. But the turbulent 20th century has made many obstacles to them. Since their movement is based on democratic principles, they have become an obtacle for the emerging totalitarian regimes that have banned their activities. The Boy Scouts were in an illegal anti-Nazi resistance during World War II, when hundreds of them died. Others became victims of political trials and spent years in communist dungeons. The Boy Scounts were free for restoration after the Velvet Revolution with a short break during the Prague Spring. They have become members of the international Boy Scouts Association and interest in their activities is currently growing. No wonder - there are not many organizations that can claim to have found their way to people across countries, cultures and religions.

On the obverse side of the mintage made by the medal maker MgA. Martin Dašek you will find the Czech flag and a characteristic iconography - a wide hat, scout lily and a badge with three eagle feathers which the Boy Scouts earn for fulfilling three challanges of silence, hunger and solitude. In the inscription there is the current name of the JUNAK – THE CZECH BOY SCOUT Association, accompanied by the motto BE READY. The reverse side then presents a group of Boy Scouts sitting by the fire in front of a tent with a undercoat which was invented by the czech scouts. The dates in the inscription commemorate the foundation of the organization (1912), the establishment of "The Boy Scouts Association of the Czechoslovak Republic" (1919) and the triple renewal of the organization (1945, 1968, 1989).

The schedule of issuance of quarter-ounce medals counts only 100 pieces accompanied by a special certificate of origin.
