The historical motto "Truth prevails" is inseparably linked to modern Czechoslovakia and Czech statehood. However, its origin dates back to the 15th century - to the time of Jan Hus, who became famous as one of the fathers of the Christian Reformation. In his passionate sermons and learned writings, the master criticized the worldly greed and moral decay of the Catholic Church. He went so far in pointing out the hypocritical practices of the powerful that he was branded a heretic and burned... He considered the truth, for which he did not hesitate to lay down his life, to be the noblest ideal. "Seek the truth, hear the truth, learn the truth, love the truth, defend the truth until death, for the truth will set you free," declared the man who believed that "truth conquers all" - "super omnia vincit veritas". Five centuries later, his wisdom was remembered by freedom fighters who were much like the medieval Hussites. When Tomas Garrigue Masaryk returned to his liberated homeland in 1918, he arrived with flags bearing the inscription "Truth prevails". This slogan has become a strong element of our national identity and has been part of the presidential standard since 1920.

Medal maker Mgr. Petr Horák dedicated the obverse side of the medal to the heraldic lion that symbolizes Czech statehood. The reverse side commemorates the burning of the master Jan Hus, whose figure is stylized in the shape of a Hussite chalice.
